View W-2 Form online

If you are an active MIT employee or student, you can view your Annual Wage and Tax Statement W-2 Form online. MIT is uses Automatic Data Processing (ADP) Payroll Services to display online W-2 Forms.

You may access your W-2 Form in two ways:

  1. Log on to Atlas and click on About Me in the top horizontal menu. You’ll find a link for W-2 Forms under Money Matters in the left-hand menu. Click on Current W-2 Form and you’ll be automatically redirected to the ADP platform where you’ll see the form.  
  2. Access your W-2 Form from the MyADP website or mobile app directly. See directions below on how to register for an account.

If you have not already opted to receive an electronic W-2 Form you will be prompted to opt-in when you elect your MIT benefits or view your paystubs via Atlas.

Your W-2 Form is available by the last week in January for the previous calendar year.

View W-2 Form on ADP website or Mobile Solutions app

In addition to accessing your W-2 Form via Atlas, you may log in to the ADP website directly or use the myADP Mobile Solutions app to access the form on a smartphone or mobile device.

ADP Mobile Solutionsfrom the AppStore on iOS or Google Play on Android—then complete the registration instructions below to obtain your username and password. 

Note:

  • If you are a new employee, you must have already received one paycheck before signing up for the MyADP mobile app. 
  • If you do not have a social security number, you will not be able to create an account for the MyADP mobile app. You can see your MIT-generated W-2 Form on Atlas via the W-2 Forms Archive link.
  • If you already have a MyADP account from a previous employer, your information should be automatically linked. If you have forgotten your old username or password, you can reset them by navigating to https://my.adp.com and clicking “forgot your User ID?” You will not need to create a new account if that is the case. 

Registration Instructions:
 

  1. You cannot create an account if you are currently logged in to MyADP via Atlas. You must log out and navigate to https://my.adp.com
  2. Go to https://my.adp.com. Click on Create Account and select Find Me.
  3. Select the Your Information option. (Do not use the default email or mobile phone option). Enter your first and last name, date of birth, country, and your full 9-digit Social Security Number (note: do not include dashes or spaces).
  4. After your record has been located and displayed, select your name, click Continue, and follow the prompt to enter your telephone number. ADP will send you a verification code to your phone to complete the registration process. 
  5. You will be asked to choose a unique password and enter your email. The password must contain 8 to 20 characters and include a combination of letters and numbers. Create and use a new strong password that is different from your Kerberos password
  6. MyADP will automatically assign you a username and display it for you.
  7. Log in with the username assigned to you by ADP and the new password you created. We recommend following ADP’s steps to provide backup contact information and using your personal email address for backup. 
  8. MyADP will send you an email asking to verify your email address. Click on the verification link within 24 hours to maintain access to the MyADP app and complete the registration process.
  9. If you run into any problems setting up your account, contact VPF at  payroll@mit.edu for assistance. 

Once you set up an account and have signed into the app, you can see a pay summary, view your earnings statement, and see W-2 Form information from 2020 forward.

Receive a printed W-2 Form in the mail

If you have opted to receive your printed W-2 Form through the mail, you will receive it from ADP Payroll Services. Watch for your W-2 Form in your USPS mail in late January for the previous calendar year. It will arrive in a standard two-window envelope, with “Massachusetts Institute of Technology” and MIT’s mailing address (77 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA) appearing in the upper left window as the sender.

You can request to change how you receive your W-2 Form from either paperless to paper copy or vice versa. If you are currently receiving an online form but would like to shift to a paper copy, submit a Withdrawal of Consent to Electronic W-2 Form or go to Atlas > About Me > Money Matters > W-2 Forms. You always have the option to return to paperless status.

Calculate taxable gross pay

Your W-2 Form displays your Taxable Earnings rather than your Gross pay as shown on your paystub. You can reconcile the Taxable Earnings on your W-2 Form with the Gross Pay on your paystub using the following formula:

FE = GP - PtD

Federal Earnings (in Box 1 of your W-2) equals

Gross Pay on your final paystub of the tax year minus

your Pre-tax Deductions

Pre-tax deductions can include: health insurance, dental and vision coverage, Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA), Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA), Health Savings Account (HSA), your contributions to your 401(k) plan, parking fees, and MBTA Commuter Rail passes.

Receive Tax Forms 1042-S, 1099-R, and 1099-MISC

Tax Forms 1042-S, 1099-R, and 1099-MISC are not available online.

Foreign National (1042-S)

If you are a foreign national with fellowship payments or are covered by a tax treaty, you will receive a 1042-S Form in late February for the previous calendar year. You have the option to access an electronic 1042-S Form on Sprintax. Please log into your Sprintax account to provide consent for an electronic 1042-S. For additional assistance, please send an email to payroll@mit.edu. If you do not provide consent to receive an electronic 1042-S Form, you will receive a paper copy via USPS in early March.

Retiree (1099-R)

Independent Contractor (1099-MISC)

If you are an independent contractor or an employee who received taxable reimbursement payments, you will receive a 1099-MISC Form from VPF Accounts Payable in your USPS mail in late January for the previous calendar year. If you need a replacement 1099-MISC contact VPF Accounts Payable.
