Miguel Camargo serves as Assistant Manager of VPF’s Sponsored Accounting team and is one of the VPF ambassadors to MIT Community Giving. Last month, in his role in Community Giving, Miguel brought an unusual volunteering opportunity to VPF and supported a local community service organization.

Twelve VPF staff members from Sponsored Accounting and Tax and Global Operations participated in a large-scale grant review project for the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley. The group spent a morning reviewing applications from nonprofit organizations and evaluated grants for their impact and potential to address complex social challenges. Their efforts helped the United Way choose the best nonprofit partners.

“We were pleased to review applications and help the United Way, whose mission statement underscores harnessing the power of people working together,” says Miguel. “Our team gathered in the NE49 Grand Cayman Conference Room for a morning of reading and scoring applications. They made it easy for us to help out by bringing the work to us. Not only did we help with this huge task, but we all learned more about the range of services and organizations connected to the United Way. We hope to make it an annual tradition.”

If your department is interested in participating in reviewing grant applications for the United Way, please reach out to Miguel Camargo at 617-253-8168.
