Do I have to charge sales tax if I am selling goods?

It depends. Some items are tax-exempt in Massachusetts. However, these same items may be taxable in another state. If your DLC is considering selling goods contact Long Tran, 617-452-4532, for information on how to collect and remit sales tax.

Do I have to pay meals tax?

It depends. If you are purchasing meals for students or something directly related to MIT exempt function, which are education and research, then you should not have to pay meals tax. However, you will need to provide the vendor with a Sales Tax Exemption Form. Refer to the Forms section within the Tax website. If you are unsure, contact Long Tran, 617-452-4532.
