Transfer of Equipment to a New Institution
If a researcher is planning on leaving MIT for another non-profit institution and would like to transfer his/her equipment, the following steps must be taken:
- Contact Michael F. McCarthy with the name of the researcher.
- He will send you an equipment listing of all the items listed to the researcher, either as Principal Investigator or Responsible Person.
- The researcher should identify the items he/she wishes to take. Items not taken should be updated with a new Responsible Person.
- Researcher should request permission from department, laboratory, or center head to transfer equipment to new institution. Include a reason for transfer (e.g. to continue polymer research) and the contact information at the receiving institution.
- DLC head should provide written approval on letterhead, addressed to the Property Manager (Michael F. McCarthy).
- The Property Manager will then get the necessary approvals from the Director of the Property Office, the Controller and from OSP.
- A final bill of sale will be issued to the new institution and a copy will be sent to the DLC.
