6.00 National Science Foundation (NSF) Shortfall

The Institute supplements the tuition for NSF fellows at a rate of $2,000 per fellow ($1,000/term). This supplement is charged to the department's Institute funded NSF Tuition Shortfall cost object. B&FA allocates the budget for the NSF tuition subsidy based on information provided by the Office of the Dean for Graduate Education (ODGE) in November each year.

ODGE provides the departments with annual processing instructions and provides the Provost's Office with the NSF fellow headcount by department. The Provost's Office instructs B&FA to calculate each department's NSF Tuition Shortfall based on headcount. Departments are advised to inform ODGE of any discrepancies or late changes so that a revised headcount can be forwarded to the Provost's Office.
